The Chairperson of International Youth Council in Nigeria, Dr. Promise Ozuzu, the Secretary, Arch. Faithful Uzochie fellow members of IYC in Nigeria, responding to the issues concerning the execution of programs in Nigeria let me remind you that:

The International Youth Council (IYC) is a civil society organization founded at the Youth Assembly at the United Nations in 2007.

The IYC is dedicated to giving young people across the world both collective voice and a mechanism to support global sustainable development.

The mission of the IYC is to provide educational resources, leadership opportunities, and a global network to the next generation of world leaders. The IYC assists young leaders in developing entrepreneurial projects and campaigns to support sustainable development projects on a local, regional, and international level.

The IYC also serves as the official network of the Annual Youth Assembly at the United Nations.

The vision of the International Youth Council is to build a global forum and platform on which all young people can develop a unified voice and take collective action toward social, economic, and environmental progress.

As a matter of fact we have uphold the principles of peace and sustainable development to ensure the attainment of our objectives. The National Executive Council of IYC in Nigeria lead by Dr. Ozuzu Promise is not sleeping but is vested with best Practices in the execution of the ideals of IYC in Nigeria. Young People in Nigeria who are coming in to membership of IYC should get themselves abreast with the mission of the Council.

Chapters Coordinators in Nigeria are expected to work with the NEC and not to rebel.

Any Chapter Coordinator seeking to carryout any Program should send details of such program to the office of the Programs Officer.

The NEC will not hesitate to discipline any Chapter Coordinator who is not taking directives from the NEC.

INTERNATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL NIGERIA-RIVERS STATE CHAPTER CALLS FOR THE IMMEDIATE IMPLEMENTATION OF UNEP REPORT ON OGONILAND(NIGER-DELTA)****

More than two years after the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) released a damning report of the destruction to the ecosystem in Ogoni land by years of unchecked oil spillage through activities of multi-national oil companies operating in the area, the Federal Government/SPDC is still foot-dragging with the implementation of the remedial actions contained in the UNEP report.

A report released by the the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) in 2011, detailed records of oil spills in Ogoni land. It also revealed the extent of devastation caused by more than fifty years of unchecked oil spills on the environment and human lives with little or no effort to clean up the environment.

More than two years now, the Federal government and SPDC is still foot-dragging on the implementation of the said report despite the series of assurances it gave to the effect that the report would not be swept under the rug when it was first released on August 4th, 2011.

Findings unveils that a Presidential committee set up to effect the immediate implementation of the report(HYPREP), especially on areas of environmental clean- up or remedying the damages done to the ecosystem as well as halt the continued loss of human lives in the region has remained comatose. Apart from the emergency water supplied to some communities by the Presidential committee in the wake of its formation, nothing concrete has been done concerning the UNEP report up to this moment.

In addition, the report categorically revealed that the restoration of the negative impacts on mangrove stands and swamp lands will take up to 30 years, adding that families are suffering due to the loss of means of livelihood, mainly fishing and agriculture and families are drinking benzene beyond the internationally accepted standard.

In plans for the Commemoration of OGONI 13 executed in November 1995 by the Nigerian Government and SHell Petroleum Development Company, the leadership of IYC-Rivers State Nigeria after having a round table discussions with the Ogoni Youth Advancment Network(OYAN) against the 19th Commemoration/Anniversary of Late Human Right Activist/writer Late Ken Saro Wiwa and the other Ogonis on November 10th 2013 hereby call on the Federal Government of Nigeria and Shell to implement the UNEP Report without delay after two years of submission. The state leadership also commended the House of Representatives and the Senate for Speaking out after 2years for the Minority.
