Whenever I debate with anyone that opposes same-sex marriage, I get extremely irritated. I understand where the opponents are coming from, but it is difficult for me to accept that their reasoning is valid. Personally, I believe homosexuals should have the same rights as everyone else, including the right to marry whomever they wish and receive the same benefits as everyone else. The most meaningless argument I have heard from a number of people is that “marriage is…

Hi Hung,

My name is Claire Lu and I am currently a junior at Monta Vista High School in Cupertino, which is located in the heart of Silicon Valley. I am a new member of the International Youth Council!
I am the founder of the Youth Advocates branch of the Silicon Valley United Nations Association, founder of the Silicon Valley Youth Microfinance Rural Poverty Alleviation Campaign, and a student ambassador for the World Affairs Council in SF.  At school, I am the Assistant Secretary General of Model United Nations, Director of Public Affairs for National Honor Society, editor of the school newspaper, principal flutist for the wind ensemble, and president of Girls Learn International, an organization dedicated toward international development and promotion of education for girls.
I became heavily involved in microfinance this summer, when I embarked on a microcredit finance rural poverty alleviation campaign in central/rural China. My model of microfinance was built on the premise of peer to peer lending, so I interacted with local villagers and interviewed twelve families to give loans to.
I am happy to have found a forum with members just as passionate as I am about microfinance and international development!
As you can probably tell, I am passionate about international affairs and foreign policy!
Are there any opportunities for high school students to lead and take action?  I would be more than happy to lead any global outreach event for IYC USA.
Best regards,
Claire Lu
