I was born on 5th June which is also World Environment Day and thus I feel that it was pre-ordained that I should grow up to be an eco-warrior . I have just returned from Rio de Janeiro , Brazil after attending the Earth Summit ( also known Rio+20 ) where I was the youngest international delegate.
In Rio+20 , my work on sustainability was reported by the media as below:
Newspaper report from Peru :

At the conference , I received an award from the United Nations for my work on combatting desertification and I held a press conference there with the Head of UNCCD ( United Nations Convention for Combatting Desertification ) and the President of the World Wildlife Fund.

This press conference was transmitted live on UN WebTV and is also reported on their website as below :

My speech at the press conference was widely appreciated and the Head of UNCCD was so impressed that he gave me his UN laper pin as a gift .
My speech can be viewed at the link below :

My work on saving the environment was chosen to feature in the movie " THE FUTURE WE WANT" which premiered in Rio and was also screened on Dutch National TV.  I was the only person from the Middle East whose work was featured in this movie. It can be viewed on :

Gulf News ,UAE's largest daily, interviewed over the  phone in Rio  and published  two  articles on my Rio achievements as below :
In Rio de Janeiro , I was chosen by United Nations Major Group for Children & Youth ( UNCSD MGCY ) to deliver 8 presentations on sustainability .
I was also chosen to pose a question to Mr Sha Zukang , UN Under Secretary General , a question on behalf of all the youth at the summit . Attached is the youtube link :
Mr Sha Zukang told me that he was very impressed with my question and posed specially for a picture with me ( attached ) .

I was also nominated by UNCSD MGCY to represent the children of the world at PEOPLE'S SUMMIT  being held parallely in Rio de Janeiro.
While in Rio , I took active part in  UNEP's World Environment Day celebrations and I planted a tree and met  Mr Achim Steiner - Executive Director and Head of UNEP.

Prior to this conference , I was a winner in a contest organised by The Living Rainforest , UK where children from all over the world were invited to write an open letter to the UN Secretary General voicing their concerns for THE FUTURE WE WANT . I was the only winner from the Middle East and went to London on 16th May for the award ceremony . It was reported by THE NATIONAL & Khaleej Times newspapers as per attached link :
Prior to Rio+20 , I have attended 8 international summits on environment .
In February this year , I was invited to Korea as the only winner from the Middle East of a competition on environmental advocacy .( reported by Gulf News :  )

After returning from Rio+ 20 , I was selected to attend the 12th Asia Pacific Conference for Giftednesswhere , too , I spread the message of sustainability to the 570 international delegates

While millions of people starve everyday across the world , at least one third of all the food produced gets wasted in the supply chain process. This is such a shame and stopping this wastage can be one of the key aspects of moving towards sustainability.

To create awareness about this major issue , UNEP  has launched its “THINK-EAT-SAVE. REDUCE YOUR FOODPRINT” campaign.

To mark the First Universal Session of UNEP’s Governing Council , it hosted a zero waste…

It was a momentous occasion when I was elected as one of the Global Coordinators of UNEP's Major Groups for Children and Youth. I took charge of my new position as the Global Coordinator during the Annual Meeting of the Major Groups Facilitating Committee.

In my role, I will seek for greater engagement and cooperation of my major group and stakeholders with UNEP thereby ensuring that we have a say in planning , policy making and implementation. The road to sustainable development…

The World Future Energy Summit 2013 was a much bigger event than the one held a year earlier.

The opening ceremony of WFES2013 saw eminent speakers such as the French President , the Argentinian President and Queen Rania of Jordan who all spoke eloquently on the theme.

The venue also hosted the International Water Summit which , too , I attended. Several workshops on alternate energy were organized to showcase the technological advancements in this…
