ACCELERATING YOUTH EMPOWERMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA.

Africa is the world's youngest continent; 70% of the population is under the age of 30 years. Despite advances in Economic growth, progress remains fragile; inequalities are widespread and young Africans face major difficulties in finding decent jobs and participation in decision-making.

The lack of such freedoms is among the factors that led young people to take to the streets demanding change and fulfillment of their legitimate aspirations for better lives.

Empowering youth is essential for sustainable Economic growth and sustainable management of the earths' ecosystems and resources; the clear challenges for many countries in Africa is to pay just as much attention to sustainable political progress.

As Africans strive to overcome threats to peace and development, the continent will continue to need strong and dedicated support from all its partners.

On that reason, as African young emerging Leaders, we need to reaffirm this commitments to work in partnership with African Union and other development agencies to realize our potential by building an environment conducive to prosperity, democracy and peace.

To put this to action, we need to devise and ensuring that no youth is left behind by exploring a new technology and strategic plans for holistic solutions to ending the barriers hindering the fulfillment of the legitimate aspiration for better lives and ensuring a well managed sustainable development in Africa.

The youth as I said are the special resources that requires special attention not only because of the demographic bonus but also the inert energy that youth possess. Youth are formidable creative resources that can be harnessed for Africa's socio-economic development.

In my work, I seek to engage my fellow African youth leaders into serious dialogue and share my views and opinions about the youth empowerment agenda as critical actor.

Generally, I seek to raise awareness and call for effective commitment and actions on the part of all stakeholders and partners at all levels to effectively mainstream youth concerns into:

  1. Development policies,
  2. Programmes,
  3. Strategies and Practices.

for the surety of securing sustainable development for the region. More specifically as A leader, I seek to:

  • Demonstrate the compelling evidence of youth empowerment for sustainable development,
  • Deliberate on how the youthfulness of the regional population could be an asset and an opportunity in the region,
  • Deliberate on challenges that youth face in general and propose key recommendations for the consideration by the governments for implementations,
  • Promote sharing of experiences, good practices and lesson learned in mainstreaming youth development into sustainable development agenda,
  • Showcase the significant innovative advancements of African youth, including the diaspora in their research and scientific activities and achievements and its contributions towards sustainable development,
  • Give African impetus to the current worldwide momentum towards youth development issues,
  • Strengthen/build new strategic alliances and partnerships among youth networks within and outside Africa for better sustainable and developed continent.

"AFRICAN YOUTH ARISE AND SHINE FOR IT IS OUR TIME TO PROVE OUR POTENTIAL IN DEVELOPMENT FOR SUSTAINABLE PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE IN OUR CONTINENT AND BEYOND".
