Pohela Boishakh or Bengali New Year is the first day of the Bengali calender, celebrated in bothBangladesh and West Bengal, and in Bengali communities in Assam and Tripura.

Poila Boishakh connects all ethnic Bengalis irrespective of religious and regional differences. In Bangladesh, it is a national holiday celebrated around 14 April according to the official amended calendar designed by the Bangla Academy.

Pahela Baishakh is indeed a momentous occasion in the life of each and every Bengalee. It is the first day of Bangla calendar year. To every Bengalee, young and old, rich and poor, wise and ignorant, it is a time of gaiety to be celebrated with great merry-making, to be enjoyed in every possible manner, an occasion which enables us, in the words of Tennyson, to drink life to the lees. Special dishes are prepared on this day.

Pohela Boishakh is a symbol of the Bangladesh nationalist movement and an integral part of the people's cultural heritage.Wishing you all HAPPY BENGALI NEW YEAR.
